Call for help - Summons a wolf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Exit out of Rabanastre to the Westersands, you should find it to the SE --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 3 - Recommended 6+ You can pick this hunt up right after the Rogue Tomato but you may wish to do it after a few more events when you pick up Penelo. If you want to take it on solo right away you'll need a stock of potions and it helps if you can upgrade your equipment. If you save your money and head to Nalbina you can find magick like blind, protect, ect... and equipment that is much better than what Rabanastre currently has to offer. I actually wish I had done this. The biggest pain is the combos she tends to do. When I fought her at 3 she did several 3 and 4 hit combos. If you're lucky you'll do one or two of your own but probably not. Kill the wolves in the area and then kill the wolf right by her first. She does 20 per hit with default armor and attacks faster than you so try running away till your attack timer fills up and then attack. Pop potions or use cure as needed. Finish her off quickly as she'll summon wolves at critical. She can also poison with her attacks but poison isn't that big a deal. It took 10 potions for me to solo at 3. With Penelo it's pretty easy. Again clear out the lesser wolves and then go at her and have Penelo use cure as needed. After beating it you should have a high enough clan rank that you can now buy Hi-Potions from the Clan Provisioner. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =========================== Flowering Cactoid =========[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 755 | 525 | 10 | 10 | 38 | 12 | 15 | 12 | 6 | 40 | 2 | 300 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Weak | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 500 gil, Potion x10 Steal: Cactus Fruit, Earth Stone, Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Ram - Physical attack with some range, fast startup time 2. Cure 3. Potion 4. 1000 Needles - 1000 damage, uses at critical once unless he resets ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Dalmasca Westersands/Galtea Downs Exit to the east to Yardang Labyrinth from the little camp in the eastersands where you meet Dantro, the client for this hunt. You should find it near the center. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 4 - Recommended 6+(Not solo) This becomes available after completing Thextera so you can do this one before heading to Dalan and Giza Plains as well. As you can tell by the evade and HP it is also a much harder fight than Thextera. It can use 1000 Needles which will be an instant game over if you are alone although normally he only uses it once so I really recommend doing this when you have Penelo. If not you'll have to hope 1000 needles misses. I don't think blind works on that since it's a skill but it would be helpful otherwise. Anyway the best way to deal with him is with magick. Take it to him and he'll occasionally run away and try to cure or use a potion. You can prevent him from using those healing moves by staying engaged with him which can be hard as he'll run through other enemies and try to force you to fight them. You can also silence him with the mage masher to prevent cure...but he can still use potions. He only does 1000 needles at critical so if you get him down that far and he starts running you could take him solo without him using it(ie kill it before it uses it) Here is Walbert Matos's solo strategy, make sure your speed settings are at default or lower: " Ok, first you need to get some stuff on Nalbina Fortress before you go to the fight. you need to buy the "Cure" spell(if you don't have it already) and the "Protect" spell, and have their respective licenses unlocked. After that go to the weapons's seller and buy the Altair(gun) and unlock the license to equip it. Then when you are at the entrance of the town go to the seller at the pathway to buy some "Onion Rounds". Now head for Yardang Labyrinth and kill any wolves and cactoids on your path to the Flowering Cactoid's location. When you see him on the distance equip the "Altair" and cast "protect" on yourself. Now select the attack action on the Flowering Cactoid and wait for the ADB gauge to fill before going in for the attack. After the first shot keep running away from him towards the Nalbina Fortress exit area(don't exit the area), and stop each time the attack bar fills (Note:this path should be empty because you killed all the monsters on your way to the cactoid's location). When you're near the exit turn back and head back to the cactoid's initial location and repeat as necessary, try to keep the camera on him so you can see when he retreats. When he retreats follow him and try to keep yourself on the gun attack range. If you get surrounded press R2 to flee to where the cactoid is running if he's still retreating, if he isn't then flee to somewhere empty preferably the exit area to Nalbina Fortress(again, don't exit the area). Now comes the tricky part. when the cactoid is critically low in HP and you see the message that Flowering Cactoid is getting ready his 1000 needles attack, quickly press R2 and flee away trying to go in circles around the maze (don't go to a dead end or you'll be history) keep running for some time until the dot is not visible on the map, then stop on an empty area and face to where the cactoid should be coming from, when you see his life bar quickly select the attack action, if you're lucky enough his attack will be reset and he will stop near you to ready his attack again (I think there is some time limit on his attack to remain valid after which it will be reset, I'm not sure). If you're not that lucky then pray for the attack to miss. after you shoot quickly press R2 and flee again. Repeat if necessary. Note:if you are really, really lucky he won't even try to do the attack." =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Wraith ======[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 5146 | 600 | 18 | 13 | 33 | 15 | 20 | 7 | 10 | 1 | 5 | 750 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Weak | Absorb | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 500 gil, Ether, Gauntlets Steal: Glass Jewel, Dark Magicite, Hi-Potion ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Doom - Death after a countdown of 10 2. Dark - Dark damage to target and nearby foes 3. Sleep touch - Does small damage and inflicts sleep 4. Poison touch - Does small damage and inflicts poison 5. Blind - Spell to blind one target Passive: "Souleater"-like ability - Can increase damage of attacks but also hurts self. Note: I just use Souleater since it's similiar and couldn't think of a name, it does not make attacks darkness based ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Garamsythe Waterway/Overflow Cloaca Go to where Kites had let you down into the sewers before and this time take the right door(only one you can). Go down to the middle of the room where you killed rats at the start of the game and it'll spawn --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 8 - Recommended 10+ His marqee move is doom. This puts a countdown to death on a char. He usually starts by putting it on all chars. He can also inflict blind, poison and sleep and he hits fairly hard including the dark spell they both can do between 80-130 damage. You can start this hunt as soon as you return to Rabanastre after you escape from prison so you could either do this solo or wait a few scenes till recover your party members. Depending on how you fight it's not that different either way. If you really, really want to tackle this solo straight away the only way to kill it before doom gets you(unless you are lucky and it misses a ton(shell may help with that since it's chance to hit you is halved with shell as well as all his other status effects) or overlevel or something) is to spam Hi-Potions on it. You can buy them from the clan vendor at this point. Buy yeah, that's expensive. Let's just wait a few quick scenes in Rabanastre to get our team back. It is possible to cure doom to do it solo but that requries a ton of LP farming for the remedy lore 3 license and farming for remedies. No, just no. It would be faster to farm gil for Hi-Potions. You can take care of Dark and Blind by silencing it with the Mage Masher. Unfortunately it can still use Doom. Then you can blind it and it's pretty much harmless...(Well there is always the chance it will manage to hit with Sleep Touch and Sleep you and then miss till the countdown kills when trying to solo it... *cough*) Anyway with it blind and silenced get it focused on someone with a shield and possibly gauntlets and it'll almost always miss or be blocked. Of course much of that is unnecessary and more for if wraith himself is killing you and not doom. You should be able to take it down before Doom starts to kill people even if you haven't really upgraded weapons and easily if you have. If you have a party of ranged you can immobilize it and then fire away. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Cluckatrice ===========[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 7509 | 563 | 19 | 17 | 34 | 14 | 25 | 5 | 8 | 3 | 6 | 830 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 1,000 gil, Amber Armlet, Rainbow Egg Steal: Small Feather, Wind Stone, Taurus Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Poke - Short range attack, fast start up time 2. Purify - Removes one status ailment 3. Petrify - Inflicts break on target and nearby foes, petrifies after a countdown of 10 4. Mucus - Ranged attack that inflicts ~100 damage and slow Passive: 0 CT at critical ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ================================= Chickatrice ================================ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 3067 | 338 | 15 | 10 | 30 | 12 | 17 | 1 | 7 | 3 | 1 | 500 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Countdown/Doom also works Steal: Potion, Small Feather, Large Feather ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- Passive Last Stand - Increased physical defense at critical health ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Giza Plains/Gizas North Bank Talk to the client in the cockatrice pen and she'll tell you that Cluckitrice appears in "Gizas North Bank" but it's shy and won't come out if there are monsters about. Press "Select" to bring up the map and use the D-pad to find the area that is named "Gizas North Bank"(It's the one to the east). Now just go there and kill everything, exit the North Bank area and re-enter and it will have spawned. This can only be done during the Dry which isn't a problem if you do this when you first can. Later on it will periodically change from rainy to dry. You can talk to a seeq at the south exit that will tell you how close the weather is to changing(you can also see whether it's rainy or dry by looking out from the south exit). Some people say it changes hourly. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 8/9 - Recommended 18+ After this hunt your clan rank will likely go up and unfortunately that will mean Hi-Potions get replaced by Greens. Oh dear lord this is certainly an elite mark when it becomes available. Cluckatrice itself is strong enough to make it very hard but then there are also 3 minions who have lots of health themselves. The big guy as you might guess can cause break to people where after a 10 count they become petrified. You can buy gold needles at Migelos to counteract it. It can also cause slow and there isn't anything you can do about that right now. When not doing either of those things it will usually be running around fairly quickly trying to poke people for about 80 a pop. It can also use a skill called mucus which does 100+ at range but it can miss. The chicks don't do much besides attack and they only hit for about 30 but it adds up. Like most marks Cluckatrice can go on combo sprees at low health They are susceptible to about everything you can throw at them at this point. Unfortunately the Cluckatrice can use purify to remove them so it's really a toss up on using them on him. The exception with Cluckitrice is Disable which he can't purify(and also will work on the chicks). Blinding the chicks will help out big time as blind never wears off of them. Remember that mag power helps with the success rate of status magic. Even though you can pick this up before gaining your party back solo is suicide. If you're not using gambits this will be a big stress and it's highly recommended you either slow down the pace or set it to wait(if trying at a normal or lower level). Note: If you haven't guessed it this is a very difficult mark to beat early on. You may wish to come back later or level up some. Right now there is no pretty way to do this. Bring lots of potions and yeah it takes a lot of auto-potioning but what else are you going to use all those potions for? I had over 50 of them just from picking them up along the way and of course some phoenix downs. Dark is an excellent attack to use till the chicks are dead as it'll hit all in an area for 200-300 damage. The Assassins dagger and Oaken Pole are good choices for weapons. Scale armor + protect is great for reducing the constant damage and highly recommended. Your top priority whatever you go with is to blind the chicks at the start and then either use dark to nuke them or focus fire them down with melee. Keep protect up and rely on potions to heal. The chicks tend to attack the closest thing but Cluck tends to bounce between targets. Unless you use dark to AoE them it's probably best to take out cluck first. A bit difficult when cluck hits critical but you'll spend less time healing. Killing the chicks first works too. I've heard people saying they've had success using Immobilize/disable. I didn't however especially with the steep MP cost at this point. --- If you are wondering what my LBs are like I have mostly gone into the necessary equips and magick. I didn't use any LP for augments till this fight and only got 2 gambits and potion lore 1. Obviously I'm just using equipment bought in shops =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Nidhogg ==============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 6079 | 120 | 21 | 11 | 40 | 13 | 25 | 12 | 4 | 0 | 5 | 780 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Weak | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Yes | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 600 gil, Rose Corsage, Balaclava Steal: Antidote, Tanned Hide, Aries Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. As long as you don't take the little hallway on the side you can't miss it... --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 11 - Recommended 18+ *If it has a lot of buffs you may wish to hang around outside of it's range till they wear off since you don't have dispel Not too bad a fight unless it takes you a while to land blind in which case he'll rip a new hole in your face. Just watch out for the combos it likes to do after you get it blind. If you primarily melee I'd suggest also slowing it. If you have a team of casters or ranged I suggest immobilizing it. Don't forget about Horology as well or the protect spell. It was doing between 300-600 damage depending on the time at level 11. I was real lucky in my first run where I was just testing out it's status immunities in that pretty much everything hit. But in subsequent runs it's been miss, miss, miss so it depends on your luck. Best thing to do is manually have everyone try to blind until it lands. He likes to target the person with the lowest HP. Heavy body armor and poles work very well. He's also weak to fire so fire magic is good as well. Finish it off quickly at critical =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Rocktoise =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 17548 | 999 | 25 | 17 | 55 | 9 | 32 | 12 | 9 | 0 | 8 | 1530 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Weak | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 1,200 gil, Hi-Potion, Survival Vest Steal: Potion, Turtle Shell, Aged Turtle Shell ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Purify - Removes Harmful status effects Passive Attacks can inflict Slow Damage Reflection - Small part of the damage you do is done to you "Souleater"-like ability - Can increase damage of attacks but also hurts self. 0 CT at Critical Health ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Lhusu Mines/Site 2 It's in the area where you had the scene with Ba'Gamnan --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 11 - Recommended 18+ He can pack a punch and he has a lot of HP but don't let that scare you. His achilles heal is his movement speed. Just use ranged attacks and magick and control whoever he targets and run away from him. You can fire off attacks and magick without him being able to catch up. If he does catch up he can hit pretty hard. At level 11 he's likely to One-Hit-KO with his stomp and otherwise take off half the HP with anything else, depending on Augments. He has a Spin move that will hit anyone close to him. Even more reason to fight at range. There is also a small damage reflection. He's susceptible to most Status though they are semi-pointless if you kite. If you try to tank it then cast Blind and Slow. If you find yourself doing little damage you can try Horology which ignore defense. Also two skeletons are lurking in the room with Rocktoise. Just take them out as you kite. An easy but abusive method to killing him(thanks to Silver Raider) is to stand back in the tunnel and he simply can't go there. He'll just stay and cast spells. Reflect that I believe you can buy you're first time at Bhujerba can be used to reflect his spells back at him. If not you can always simply run a bit out of range to heal. With this method he'll use purify so status effects are a waste of time. Not as fun but can help those a little less action oriented. That's a modified verison of Silver Raider's strategy which is thus: "To this, I'd like to comment about Rocktoise. I've been able (and also lucky) to beat it and live to tell the tale, as I almost had my whole party wiped out with the skeletons on my way out of the mines. I made my level 09 Fran obtain the license for bows, and, lucky me, found a Killer Bow. Anyway, I've had her learn Cure, and gambited to use it when HP less than 40%. On herself, she killed Rocktoise. The strategy? Attack when HP higher than 190. The Orrachea also helps. This is how to do it when solo: Go to the cave where Rocktoise is. Attack it with full HP. Keep close, but not too much, to make it go after you without casting any spell. Attack again, and it'll cast a spell. Get away until your Attack gauge fills up and attack. Keep attacking this way until the Gambit cures you, or when Rocktoise casts Dark. Go to the small entrance you came by. It'll stop, but its spell is ready to use. Walk in circles to recover MP and cure yourself until your HP is full or almost full, so you can resist some spells. Wait until Rocktoise cancels its spell and returns to the position you found it in. Quickly, attack again, and repeat the process. Each attack does 100 - 170 (ish) damage. My worst attack did 116, and the best was 335, a Critical. After some time, and patience, Rocktoise is defeated. It takes a while, but not too much." =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ============================== Wyvern Lord =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 18669 | 720 | 24 | 17 | 55 | 14 | 28 | 6 | 5 | 0 | 8 | 1440 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 1,000 gil, Elfin Bow, Shell Shield Steal: Yensa Scale, Crooked Fang, Wyvern Wing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Gust - Weak wind-based attack that hits anything to the front 2. Aero - Wind magick that hits the target and nearby foes 3. Flame Breath - Attack that hits all foes to the front Passive: Can inflict Petrify with normal attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Nam-Yensa Sandsea/Simoon Bluff Go to the very north and you can find it flying back and forth just off the cliffside. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 14/15 - Recommended 20+ This isn't too bad especially since you have a guest that will pop potions and use telekinesis. So yeah, he's flying so you need ranged attacks, magick or technicks to hit him. He has some AoE attacks so you don't want to get bunched up too much. He has Gust(low damage), Aero(~300) and a flame breath (~400). So have his target face him away from everyone else. Equipping Windbreakers will halve any wind based damage. You can try inflicting status on him but I didn't have much success. In the time I tested them Vossler ended up taking it down to half health by himself with just me tossing some healing every now and then so that should say how easy this is. =============================================================================== -=Tanking Note and some tips=- -6TNO- I think this part of the game is where tanks shine the brightest. Buy someone the Main Gauche, get them the Golden Shield, the shield block licenses and gauntlets accessory and blind every mark you can and watch as everything struggles in vain to hit your tank. A couple ignore evade though(such as M a r i l i t h) so be prepared for those cases. Also believe it or not but I usually go with a low HP tank(pre-decoy) as most mobs in the game tend to focus on the lowest HP(later it seems to switch to defense, but you'll have decoy) but I also have a High HP one as well. There are several different ways to do this. Simply don't get your tank topped off and keep his current HP lower than others, get everyone else the +HP licenses or simply use the person who has the lowest natural HP. Call me crazy but it's worked well for me over two playthroughs, at least early on. As I said once you get decoy you can pretty much through that concept out of the water. Also your clan rank will jump up quite a bit when doing these hunts(assuming you've cleared everything else so far). Defeat two and you should be a Headhunter(IIRC) and you can buy the Nihopalaoa which reverses the effects of items and gives you a guarenteed way to inflicted harmful status(ie Eye drops = blind, Phoenix down = death, ect...). You can also get Reverse which you probably don't have enough MP to really use at this point though with some clever use of it you can use it to more easily make it past some gruesome situations(remember that it has an extremely short duration though you may be able to use some chrono tears if the enemy just attacks the nearest...) Down another 2 and your rank should be Ward of Justice which allows you to buy the Bubble spell. You can now pretend your tank is twice the level(or everyone though it's expensive to keep up like that at this point). By the time you wrap up the last 3 you should be able to buy Faith as well. Also I do realize that some of these can be done before completing raithwall however I missed at which point they first become available. I have nearly a save per mark so I'll eventually go back to wyvern lord to try a bit more. =============================================================================== =============================== Croakadile =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 19449 | 780 | 29 | 18 | 57 | 13 | 35 | 13 | 13 | 2 | 10 | 1440 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Weak | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 1,200 gil, Serpent Rod, Teleport Stone Steal: Horn, Pointed Horn, Aries Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Immediately blind it and as long as it stays on your tank you can beat it without it ever damaging anyone. If not things will hurt a bit when he does Growing Threat plus he comboes more frequently at critical. I only got hit twice the whole fight and that was when penelo got too close and he turned and swatted her early for minimal damage and then later after Growing Threat he turned and used Aqua Bubbles on her which hit her for 1k...Basch has the most HP at this level for me at 770 so um, stay spread out a bit. Alternately you can use immobilize to keep him pinned down About Renew: Croakadile will use Renew if no one is immediately in range for him to attack. Be aware the game can be funky when it comes to people dying and especially when dismissing espers and there can be brief periods where an enemy cannot target you. Since reverse can work on Croakadile you could take advantage of that. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Enkelados =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 18709 | 210 | 27 | 12 | 56 | 12 | 34 | 12 | 8 | 0 | 9 | 1210 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Weak | Half | Half | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 1,100 gil, Elixir, Golden Amulet, Remedy X2 from Lesina in Giza Plains Steal: Potion, Earth Magicite, Slaven Harness ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Easiest way is to warp to Dalmasca Westersands and exit out east and you should see him to the south. There needs to be a sandstorm. As far as getting a sandstorm exit out of the westersands and go back in till there is one. It's best to do this before earth tyrant since it seems to be infinitely harder to get a sandstorm after defeating it. With earth tyrant you can force a sandstorm by entering his area in the NE of the eastersands(Wyrm's next IIRC). --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 16/17 - Recommended 30+ The most notable thing about this guy is his high HP and his ability to do a one time health restore. Other than that he's slow and he mostly attacks physically with the rare Fira/Thundara. He also has a flame breath which hits everyone in an arc in front of him and inflicts sap so don't clump up. He can also confuse with his attacks and casts immobilizga. The first priority is to blind it and get him focused on your meat shield. Once blind have someone slow it and reapply it when it wears off. Try manually casting Blind with all 3 chars till it lands. If your tank has the Main Gauche, Golden Shield, Gauntlets, and Blocking augments you'll block nearly everything. Use Esuna to remove status effects. He's slow so ranged attacks can kite him around if they are targeted. He has pretty retarded pathing around obstacles. Remember that he only heals once. As long as you don't group everyone up so they all get blasted by his flame breath at once you shouldn't be able to lose. Have your tank use Hi-Potions at low health and heal as normal with cure/cura. Watch for when he targets someone else and immediately switch to that person and run away from him in circles, preferably around a rock or something. If you happened to run across a Hand-Bomb I don't suggest them since unlike the other ranged weapons they can be countered and he counters quite a bit Sometimes it's good to be challenged, thanks to Lore Spell I've come to realize I overlooked some important info. I used to think that he just got lucky at low health and started connecting a bit more. After 10 minutes or so you stop paying attention to miss/block but now that I've come back and fought him again I see I was wrong. After he uses restore he starts to ignore evade and if he's not blind by this point it's highly unlikely you'll be able to beat it(unless you go the ranged attacks + immobilize/kiting). Also he'll start using spells a lot especially if his target is outside of melee range. Try equipping the manufacted nethecite on your tank(or use reflect either buffing or ruby rings, mosphoran highwastes merchant) which halves the damage of his breath attack and his spells and use uncounterable attacks like technicks or bows/guns. Don't forget protect/shell on the tank. +HP Augments are helpful for the tank as written in the Tank section. You'll do a good bit of healing so be ready to do some charging. Keeping it slowed after it uses restore helps but once it hits critical stop using slow since it'll have 0 CT. What you may want do is have someone try to keep immobilize on it and just use ranged attacks. Or simply use a ranged weapon and keep running away from it while firing. Just keep at it, it'll take awhile. This is an endurance fight --- Depending on the order you are doing these marks you should be a Headhunter now. You can now by Reverse and the Nihopalaoa in the muthra bazaar. You'll need to find 5 more which can be found in the following places in Giza Plains during the Rains, for completeness in case someone doesn't read or skips over the part about the one by the client I'll list it first: Crystal Glade Starfall Field Toam Hills Nomad Village Gizas North Bank Throne Road After you can cross to "Tracks of the Beast" from "Gizas South Bank". You'll find Bansat from Clan Centurio there to help. Pay attention to what he says as he'll tell you when Gil Snapper is up. If he says that the mark isn't up just exit and reenter "Tracks of the Beast" until he does. If you have to exit out for some reason after engaging and come back later I don't believe he will say. You'll have to exit/reenter until you get a very, very stormy atmosphere. After killing it you can meet them in Nomad Village when it's Dry. From what I can tell the weather won't start changing until sometime after you advance the story. Try after Henne mines or stilshrine. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 - Recommended 30+ Remember Rocktoise? Yeah nearly the exact same thing only this one can cast some spells. Fix that by silencing it with either silence shot(gun ammo) or the silence spell. Immobilize seems to have an easier time landing or it could just be me also Bansat will sometimes immobilize it. Keep your buffs up and keep it silenced and you'll be fine. If you aren't kiting it then try to blind/slow it. He is easily tankable with a good setup(Main Gauche, Golden Shield, Heavy Armor, Blocking Augments and Gauntlets). If you have the Nihopalaoa you can insure you silence it right away by using an echo herb and blind it with an Eye drop. Or you can hit him with a bunch at once with a remedy. (Note that both the east and west rooms are both called No. 10 channel, you need to go to the west side). When you enter the west area you will see that the mini-map shows that the upper paths connect unlike the area map. Staying on the upper path, use the connecting little connecting stairs to make your way over and down to West Sluice Control. If you need to check out the video at the end of the strategy or search youtube. There are several vids by others on there that show how to get to him. Alternate just try every exit till you find one that is not flooded, by default all other areas BUT the west No. 10 channel are flooded so by the process of elimination you'll find the only way you can go and must go. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 - Recommended 30+ Being a flan it tends to spend most of it's time casting. It's main attack is Watera and it also uses toxify, slowga and flash. Other than that it has the normal flan attacks like slap. There are many strategies to beat this guy and depending on how you fight it could be the most difficult hunt up to this point or another easy one. A tip for clearing up to him is to just run through(Hold down R2 to flee) No. 10 Channel and use warp or warp motes to easily get rid of the malboros once you get to the West Sluice Control area. Alternately if you have the Nihopalaoa you can use that with phoenix downs to kill them. If an elemental is in the area you can either reload or try to beat it. When you spawn White mousse I suggest pulling him up the stairs to avoid getting the Lizard which is hidden in the upper corner. Strategy 1: This is the most common. Basically all you do is berserk him and blind him. This is a good strategy if you have a party of melee with shields. It can put a strain on your healing if you have more of a balanced team or mage heavy team as it bounces from target to target(unless you have advanced the story to where you have decoy). Berserk misses often as well as wears off so you'll have to be on your toes the entire time. At low level I found berserk to be much, much more troublesome as he hits just as hard physically as with magic. Strategy 2: This is the easiest way to do it. Just put him to sleep and use fire magick or technicks to kill it. If you have the Nihopalaoa you can easily do this with alarm clocks. If not I suggest getting it blind and also use reflect to survive until you can get sleep to hit. I really, really suggest niho at low levels, you'll just miss too often otherwise. Belias also works well. If you are far enough along that you have Fira try reflecting it off your own party. It took about 15 alarm clocks and a handful of phoenix downs and hi-potions. I didn't really need to use hi-potions at all and in fact that lead to a couple deaths because I forgot to turn the auto-potion off the nihopalaoa user. Poor Penelo...(you'll notice a pattern with her >_>). Other than that a couple slaps and Fran went down. *cough* Anyway...this is the strategy I used to beat him at level 17. Strategy 3: This works at lower levels if you have a guest. Just cast reflect on everyone and attack. Skills that ignore defense are good to use. Nearly everything he does will be reflected back at him. You can reduce the amount he is healed by his Watera by casting shell on him and spreading out so as few as possible people reflect it. Bring plenty of Eye drops and Hi-Potions. Strategy 4: Later on in the game you can buy Viking coats. Equip these and it's basically an instant win as they nullify his main attack, waterga =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Orthros ==============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 87141 | 999 | 37 | 25 | 72 | 16 | 64 | 35 | 23 | 0 | 25 | 3600 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Weak | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 3,800 gil, Horakhty's Flame, Unpurified Ether Steal: Phoenix Down, Caramel, Slime Oil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. It's the room to the right of the one where you find White Mousse. You do not have to mess with any of the water controls. You need a team of Ashe, Fran and Penelo for it to spawn but you can immediately switch them out afterwards. There is a handy save crystal at East Sluice Control which is the room just to the right --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 - Recommended 30+ Another flan in the room just beside the white mousse. You need an all female party to spawn him in the empty room(guests don't matter) and then you can immediately switch whoever you want in. Attacks to watch out for are Darkra and Thundara(rare). He has an attack that can confuse as well so be prepared to remove that. He attacks physically much more than White Mousse and has an attack called Mythril Bubbles that will hit anything directly in front of it. Mythril Bubbles is a little weird in that if you run away while he is charging it up he'll soon stop moving and cancel it without using it. There are other moves from other creatures that you can do this with. This fight is easy after the Mousse. Buff everyone with reflect(or equip ruby rings) and blind him and he basically can't do anything to you thankfully the damage spells he uses damage him. A proper tank works really well here to block nearly everything that isn't reflected especially since he tends to focus on the nearest foe. Defense ignoring technicks are the way to go here. Abuse Horology and balance. The same sleep strat as white mousse works here. Go to the Westersands and go to "Shimmering Horizons" and exit to Zertinan Caverns by taking the SW exit. You'll be in "Invitation to Heresy" which is the right part of the Caverns. He appears in the S part of the cave where there are usually a -couple frogs- walking around. You should notice in the back there are several windows letting in light. This is the largest room in the area. That's where it spawns however you usually have to wait around five minutes before it will come out. Just run around killing things in the meantime or simply loiter around there. Eventually it'll pop up when you walk all the way into the corner where the light is shining. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 17 - Recommended 30+ He doesn't have too many tricks but he has speed and hits hard. He also combos high and often. He's also quite resistant to magick. Like with most of the others blind is very important to inflict from the start but it can take quite some attempts to get it to hit(unless you use Nihopalaoa + Eye drop/Remedy). In the meantime he'll be raping face and it could end up that you're just rezzing as fast as he kills people. Yes this is exactly like Nidhogg only even if you do blind him he can still attack often enough that he'll hit a good bit along with those nasty combos. Slow can help but you can also cast it for the entire encounter and watch it miss every time and unlike blind it will wear off but still it'll be a help. As far as tanking it goes he seems to ignore evade till critical so you don't have to worry about evade for most of it. This means even with blind it will be very healing intensive and MP management is very important and this also makes it perhaps the hardest mark to beat right after raithwall. I highly recommend you hold off till you pick up Larsa which you do by going to Jahara which is the next point in the story. His Hi-Potions and added dps are a huge boon. Not to mention that'll save you a lot of your own. Personally I got annihilated each time before I could even blind it or do much so here is what I had to add to it. What I had to do is use bubble. If you've taken down the previous hunts you should have a high enough rank to buy the spell from the clan vendor as well as faith and reverse. Before you engage buff everyone with bubble though after just keep it up on your tank. This will hopefully give you the HP cushion you need in order to inflict him with blind and get him under some control. Slow is recommended as well. Then just keep protect and bubble on the tank and faith on the healer if you have it since it'll provide a very nice boost to healing so you can get the most bang for the buck and cast time. Seriously. Again Larsa and his Hi-potions will make this 3x easier. At critical health he loses his ability to ignore evade however he gains the 0 CT ability which means he starts to attack even faster. Equip for evasion at this point to make it easier. It's an extremely good idea to have the +HP augments if you want to take on this guy at this point. A lot of Hi-Potions, charging, buffing, healing and phoenix downs sees him down at 17. He mostly just attacks though he'll occasionally cast Doom. His trick is Annul which will reduce the targets MP to 0. At critical he'll start using spells like Watera if he's not already silenced or berserked or something. This is a good fight to test out decoy on if you haven't already. Then laugh as he tries in vane to kill you by whacking the tank and annuling the tank's MP. Otherwise if you don't want to test out decoy an easy way to deal with this guy is to have someone with a nihopalaoa throw a remedy at him(optional really) and reflect cura spells at him. As you can see by his skill list he can bombard someone with harmful status or spike them with damage. Have someone able to use esuna. At low health he can use the skill White Wind to become immune to harmful status and combined with his low health and overall magick resistance it's not worth it really to bother with them unless you find it necessary. If you have an all melee party keep a very close eye on his health and when it goes close to critical move at least one of them away so you don't get wiped out by balance or else just use your other 3 to finish it off I guess. Or kill him before he uses it. By inflicting him with Disease you can sidestep both White Wind and Balance. To inflict Disease you would have to use Nihopalaoa + Remedy/Vaccine. Don't bother too much with black magick and just beat him down. If you are at a very low level and without HP augments bubble would be a great idea at least for your tank to survive the spike damage. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Trickster =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 61321 | 999 | 37 | 20 | 77 | 25 | 70 | 25 | 27 | 8 | 25 | 3240 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Random | Random | Random | Random | Random | Random | Random | Random ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 4,800 gil, Deimos Clay Steal: Chocobo Feather, Gysahl Greens, Hastega Mote ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. If you exit the area and come back he won't tell you when it's there again so you'll just have to exit and reenter till it's there. You will probably want to venture in some to check it out as it can be semi-invisible(you can still see it's outline) but it will run around all over the frozen bank and most likely run into you. Tip: Trickster can be defeated with bio while he is using white wind or paling. (Thank you to Ramon for submitting this tip!) --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Average level 29 - Recommended 45+ For the first 80% or so he spends most of his time running around the area and will do hit and runs. He hits pretty damn hard. At around 35% he'll use White Wind and he'll also start to use Choco-comet. He'll stay and attack a bit more but will still run around some. At critical he'll use Paling and stay and fight. A Paling makes an enemy immune to physical damage for a period of time(ie it wears off eventually). magick still does damage however Trickster can has a passive ability that changes his elemental weakness everytime he's hit by it and absorbs everything but that one element. Non-elemental magick attacks such as Drain, Bio, ect... are what work best when he has the Paling up. A trick I believe should work with White Wind/Paling is to reduce the battle speed to the slowest setting. Buff duration shouldn't be affected and he'll attack far less during them. *With Quickenings - wait till Trickster is near critical before he uses paling and then unleash all you got. If it doesn't kill use bio/drain to finish it off. Strategy 1 - Pre-Stilshrine No way around it. This guy hits like a truck right now. His charge attacks hit for around 1.5k. A bubble belt on the tank is recommended since you need bubble to take that abuse at this point or else just keep the guy from the clan up since he can take it about as well. He might well have more health and just as much defense as your tank at this point. Just whittle him down as you can and don't use elemental attacks or weapons. Blind is huge help. Just make sure you inflict it BEFORE white wind and it'll stay on him. Ranged weapons like guns are great here simply because of the running around otherwise whatever you want. If you want to use a mage stick to Drain(or Bio if you are past Stilshrine). His attack power seems to lessen once he settles down to attack at low health. Now here's the easiest way to do this without quickenings. Gil Toss. But of course you need the gil for it and it needs to do enough damage. The amount thrown is determined by the parties HP divided by the number of enemies. This includes HP granted by bubble from what I can tell. Even it doesn't it can give you a nice head start to use the Drain strat. Basically get him down to nearly critical and before he uses paling queue up Gil Toss on all 3 people and turn off gambits. Boom. You do need good timing with it because you don't want there to be too much of a gap for him to use paling, if you're lucky he'll be in the middle of an attack when you throw money at him. Strategy 1b Again make sure you Blind it BEFORE White Wind. White Wind doesn't remove status effects so it stays and Blind affects all his attacks including choco-comet. It is possible to beat him without using the gil but it ain't pretty(or with it if gil toss isn't tossing quite enough to instanta finish it but still does hefty enough damage to give you a good head start with paling). You may want to try the battle speed trick I mentioned to make it easier once he uses paling. It's also a very good idea to have faith buffed as well as protect on everyone. Hopefully you have the bubble belt on your tank inorder for him to survive the beating during Paling and it helps if everyone else is bubbled due to choco-comet. Use Cura instead of Curaga to heal everyone when he uses Choco-comet. With two mage types you should be able to. Stay alive and do damage with non-elemental magick like drain/balance or play hide-and-seek with his elemental weakness when possible. Eventually his status and physical immunity shields will fall and you can either put him to sleep and continue the magick attack or finish him off physically. Be aware that he can use either paling or white wind again. You can try sleep + magick before he uses white wind but it's doubtful that you'll be able to kill him in the time that he's slept at this point. I tried getting him close to Paling point and waiting for white wind to wear off but he immediately reused it as soon as the message came up that it had worn off. This is a much easier battle later on with improved equipment and spells. Bio does far more damage than drain. -- Also if you've completed all the previous hunts and sold the loot you've gotten as rewards the Morbin Urn/Canopic Jar will appear in the Bazaar Item list upon selling the clay you get from the reward for trickster. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Antlion ==============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 106499 | 750 | 37 | 18 | 77 | 17 | 68 | 25 | 24 | 0 | 25 | 3750 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Half | Weak | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 4,300 gil, Bubble Belt, Sickle-Blade Steal: Potion, Charger Barding, Cancer Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. If this happens you may just want to reload. Also I'd like to shout out to Vicaris, I happened to run across his post that mentioned the warp and the respawns. I had thought I had tried warp on the mantis and I thought they were immune but thanks to coming across his post I realized I had only tried it on the bats. Let me just say that using gravity was just too luck driven >_> At first the hardest part about this guy is the fact that he has 5 little ones with him. And even with bubble and the armor you have they'll chew through your tank with all of them hitting on you. On the brightside the normal foes can be warped(such as with warp motes). For reference with the Shielded armor and bubble my two tanks have about 4500 HP and they get hit for ~450. You have two choices, first is to spam warp with everyone as soon as you get in there(make sure decoy is already set) preferably on different targets and hope everything gets takin out while you try to run away at the same time with the tank. The other is to have someone cast reverse on the tank(turn off healing!) until you get them all warped. Be careful where your non-tanks stand so they don't get hit by Flatten during this. Evade can be a great help. Have esuna ready to go incase he inflicts Disable with his attacks. After that have your tank pull Antlion up the tunnel some in case of respawns. For awhile it should go pretty good except for the fact that it hits hard and fast. It's recommended that your damage dealers have Gladius(or whatever the best wind elemental weapon is at your point in the game). I just put it on my tank, with bravery, haste and berserk. The others should be concentrating on healing and keeping it slowed as well as decoy active. You may want to use some reserve chars at this point for the buffing and lighter healing to conserver MP on your main healers. Faith can really help out Healing-to-MP efficiency. Everything should go fine till it gets to critical...as always. Make sure your healers have MP before that and hopefully the buffs on your tank will last. At critical it will enrage and it'll combo a lot, hit harder, and hit faster. If you have the MP to spam heal the berserker tank it'll go down with little fuss. If he dies just scramble what you can to finish it. Note that if you have the Nihopalaoa you can avoid the enrage and all at critical by using a Vaccine/Remedy on him to inflict Disease(wrax_000) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Vorpal Bunny ===========[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 20010 | 999 | 35 | 22 | 55 | 25 | 46 | 15 | 22 | 6 | 16 | 1440 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 2,000 gil, Lightning Arrows, Gillie Boots Steal: Drab Wool, Hi-Potion, Blood Wool ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. He doesn't seem to have any tricks, you have dispel to remove his buffs, and he hits pretty weak and even if he comboes you won't really notice since his attack animation is so slow. He can purify harmful status but he can't do anything about Disable, sleep or confuse. First time I fought him I was testing his immunities with Nihopalaoa + remedy and he ended up sitting there disabled for most of his health then I also had Penelo with Recurve Crossbow + Stone Bolts and I put in a tank with a Sledgehammer for kicks. Though upon later tries he does tend to use White Wind fairly early. Seems to also be like Ring Wyrm in that he uses Restore once or he may not at all. He spends most of his time casting black magic and sometimes inflicting Stop. If all 3 get stopped try to switch someone in to start curing it. He can use Invert so just queue up Curaga on his target when you see it. He has a trick up his sleeve called Soul Etude which he'll use at critical to fully restore his HP as well as buff up with Hero's March. He will only do this once per fight though. The easiest way to do this is to inflict berserk and blind(as well as slow if you wish). Also if needed you can Decoy 1 melee and have 2 others a range and this takes the AoE of the spells out of the picture. This is the basic party and strategy I use throughout the whole guide. He has very high defense at critical so try using Defense ignoring attacks such as magick or techs. About Soul Etude - Soul Etude/March/Waltz seem to be a part of a package that is used once so if you interupt it by say berserking it before it can finish casting them it may be able to use soul etude again. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Bloodwing =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 41171 | 713 | 33 | 21 | 69 | 40 | 61 | 22 | 23 | 8 | 24 | 2990 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 2,400 gil, Stun Bombs, Vampyr Fang Steal: Pebble, Bat Fang, Spiral Incisor ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Getting it involves helping Dantro's wife in South Bank village heal a patient. Check out the sidequest section. Once you have it you can enter Barhiem from it's other entrance just south east of South Bank Village(South Bank Village south to Banks of the Nebra south east to Murmuring Defile). Inside head north to Great Central Passage and take the NW exit to the East-West Bypass. Head on to The Zeviah Span where you need to find a rail car off to the side to interact with to make your way south once you reach a dead-end(it's on the rightside at the center dead-end if facing south). Continue on to West Annex. It'll spawn in the middle of the narrow part to the south. These is a save point in the room to the west of West Annex --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 24 - Recommended 35+ Hardest part about this mark is getting to it. The enemies might be a little tough especially if you spawn a bunch on top of yourself. I just fought my way with the help of disable(sledgehammer + Stone Bolts) and silence(Silence shot). May want to search chests on your way through. There is a chance you can get some nice items from some of them. If your lucky that's good and if not don't stress over them. West Annex is packed with skeletons and ghosts so you may just want to book it for the save point in the room to the SW. Then it's a bit quicker to clear a place to fight Bloodwing. Give the old blind and such and this time Disease is actually helpful as it'll prevent him from being able to recover any health with leech(you can inflict disease with the Nihopalaoa accessory + vaccine/remedy). Eerie soundwaves seems to hit everything in attack range. Other than that other enemies in the area is the only thing but if you cleared enough to prevent respawns it won't be an issue. There is a deadend area to the SW where no enemies spawn and makes a good place to pull him to to fight. It is a Flying creature so have the ranged abilities ready. Anyway Braegh relies on indirect attacks to win such as by inflicting Harmful Status and using Invert. Silence can take his spell casting out of the picture and you can also reflect his spells back at him. This includes Invert. So assuming he hasn't put up a magick shield you can reflect his on Invert back at him and end it a bit quicker. Otherwise Icebrand will deal a lot of damage and Black bolts and Sledgehammer are great for keeping it Disabled. Sorry but that needed to be repeated --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 24 - Recommended 45+ As you might guess this guy nukes with status effects. If you keep everyone but the tank away his big mouth you should be fine and only need a quick esuna and possibly haste to fix everything back up. In addition to his breath he has an AoE stop so avoid getting everyone hit with it. He's fairly weak till he hits critical than his attack power shoots through the roof. I'm pretty sure he has adrenaline(Increased strength at critical) in addition to his growing threat. I kept a tank decoyed and everyone else had ranged weapons so they avoided the breath attacks and time requiem. Bubble helps deal with his increased attack power at low health. Don't bother with Status afflictions since he's immune to nearly all and can purge them. Though it can be nice with silence shot to watch him waste time purging it. You have a helper from the clan who can buff everyone with haste, protect, shell and bravery. Follow that setup till he uses growing threat. Once he uses growing threat he'll begin one shotting everyone. Best to turn off buffs and healing and just leave a raise and esuna/remedy/chrono tears gambit or not on you're judgement. At critical I recommend Anise's advice of using Curaga(or reflected cura to finish it off) to finish it off. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================== Roblon ==============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 177365 | 999 | 37 | 30 | 65 | 17 | 69 | 27 | 29 | 0 | 26 | 4410 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Absorb | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 3,100 gil, Giant's Helmet, Mythril Steal: Fire Stone, Iron Ore, Fire Crystal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Secret path is found in The Slumbermead at the NW which leads to The Fog Mutters and onto Overlooking Eternity. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 24 - Recommended 50+ *This is a time consuming mark to do at low levels. If you don't care for that then don't do it. Roblon himself is a wimp with a lot of HP. The problem are the Dead Bones. Unlike some think they don't have an unlimited respawn. Each spawn point respawns roughly 3 times and the spawn points are pretty close together. By killing them until they stop before moving forward you can make it much easier. Be very careful not to aggro too many. The best way to crowd control them is Nihopalaoa + Chrono's tear/Remedy Proceed slowly and try to anticipate respawns. Your goal is to try to clear them enough that they won't respawn in the area you want to fight him. Healing spells of course work great on them (although no curaja yet) but they respond to it by casting reflectga so you'll have to work around that. For some reason some augments like warmage don't seem to work in Overlooking Eternity. Goggle masks prevent blind if it's a problem. Taking on this mark at a low level is all about your ability to deal with the dead bones and prevent them from becoming an issue. Just have your tank use a ranged attack like 1000 needles as well as everyone else depending on weapons. You'll probably pick up 2 or 3 skeletons. Do your best to crowd control them with Chronos Tears and then kill them. Roblon actually seems to stay in place so you can pull away out of his range to deal with them if needed. Always eliminate dead bones first Depending on how much clearing of respawns you did you won't get more than maybe one as long as you don't move around too much from where you choose to fight him. Easiest way to fight him is with reflect and stay at range. Ranged weapons or self reflecting spells both works well. Aquashot will hit him hard until he hits critical. Speaking of which, if using the reflect strat then try reflecting some spells at him(other than fire based ones) to finish him off quicker at critical. If you fight him in melee he'll begin using physical attacks at half health. Watch out for Tri-Attack as it hits quite hard. At critical he'll simply attack normally but with no CT. If you stay at range with everyone he'll continue to cast spells. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================ Darksteel =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 111331 | 999 | 37 | 24 | 77 | 17 | 59 | 22 | 23 | 0 | 21 | 4080 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 3,000 gil, Lead Bolts, Adamantite Steal: Eye drops, Aged Turtle Shell, Ancient Turtle shell ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. You can use fireflys to maintain certain levels. This comes in handy for harder enemies that use level based spells. He used the restore trick twice. You can get around this by putting him to sleep and reflecting Aeroga off you're team. Have Serenity augment unlocked and pre-buff with Faith. Cherry staff + mystic armor along with Serenity and faith pretty much gaurentee 9999 damage at low levels(overkill at high levels) Otherwise if fighting him in melee blind, slow, and silence are all helpful. A tank is real handy to keep the AoE attacks focused on one person and to block much of it if only for the first part. Bubble + Decoy + Protect + Whatever on the tank and whatever buffs you want on everyone else. You're tank should have evasion Balthier makes a natural tank here without Decoy ;) The easiest way is to sleep and oil up the minions and use Firaga to take them out. Sleepga/Oil or Nihopalaoa + remedy/Alarm clock/Hankercheif. Monid seems to stay on Ba'gamnon pretty well. Goliath will start out by using magick Barrier and then fire spells at his target. Mirror mail/reflect is good to use here or you can equip a Viking Coat/Windbreaker depending on the spell to reduce the damage. When his health gets lower he'll start attacking physically if you are in melee range so be sure to have protect up on his target. His physical attacks can cause disable as well. The easiest way to kill this guy is to reflect his spells. If you stay at range and use guns, bows, (insert non-magic ranged attack here), ect... then he will simply cast spells all day that will be reflected. Be aware that if you don't reflect his spells they can do high damage to the amount of 3000 without shell. If you melee him just be sure to switch to better armor if you had been using mirror mails and use protect to reduce the damage if necessary and all that. The hardest part about the battle is that he can inflict stop which can get annoying. Power Armlets can help with that if it's a big problem. The easiest way to deal with him is to Berserk + Blind him(slow optional). This will prevent Annul and you can sidestep paling and the abilities he gains at critical. Just equip heavy body armor and use protect to mitigate the damage. Shields do work as well. Immobilize is another option that works very well. If you have the MP for it, reflecting Curaja will decimate it. If berserk wears off at critical or you aren't using berserk he'll put up a paling gain a couple new passive abilites which allow him to go on an attack spree. Immobilize can help a lot with this part as well. Use Curaga on it to finish it off from there. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ============================ Gilgamesh Part 1 ==========[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 123103 | 999 | 42 | 25 | 79 | 21 | 76 | 26 | 30 | 6 | 55 | 4000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 10,000 gil, Excalipur Steal: Phase 1-3 Potion, gil(100%-60% Health) Phase 4: Genji Shield(40% Health) Phase 5: Genji Gauntlet(20% Health) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. At 40%-21% you can steal the genji shield and at 20%-1% you can steal the genji gauntlets ----------------------------------- This is more of an introduction to gilgamesh. First his dog. Enkidu actually has quite a bit of attack and can hit everyone with eerie soundwaves. He also has much lower HP so he should be the first target. You can inflict him with a variety status which you should especially blind or sleep depending. This includes oil so firaga and fire elemental ammo/weapons can do massive damage to it. Gilgamesh pretty much just beats on his target with the occasional combo. He goes through phases every 20% with a little cutscene denoting that you can steal a new item and his attack power will rise slightly by the end. He also rebuffs so you'll have to dispel as well. At the final 20% he uses perfect defense which you'll just have to wait out by waiting for him to use his ultimate illusion attack twice. Ultimate Illusion seems to hit everything in a line in front so put your other 2 behind him. Slow works and you should keep it on him throughout the fight. You may wish to use expose/shear but it goes quick enough. Don't forget to steal if you are after the genji equipment. His attacks can inflict sleep. The way I did it was have a tank with the usual bubble, protect and decoy as well as faith on the healer. I also kept everyone hasted. Start off by dispeling both of them and blinding, slowing, ect... and finish the dog off quickly. When it's just Gilgamesh it's just a tank and spank fight. Cameo Belts can help if their evade/parry is problematic Enjoy the show. -- If you steal only one thing from Gilgamesh in both fights I highly suggest the Genji Gloves as they really do make a difference especially with a weapon with an already high combo rate such as the Masumune which you will get as a reward for this hunt after you beat part 2. You can then use the key to open the gate in the W part of Site 9. In site 11 look for a device to open the gate in NW and then proceed on. In Site 5 head directly east to make it to Site 6 South and then head south to make it to the aptly named Staging Area where you can save. Just south of the save point is Site 7 and Gilgamesh. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 35 - Recommended 60+ Stealing from Gilgamesh: Between every scene that happens every 20%(ie 80%, 60%, ect..) you can steal a new item from gilgamesh. At 40%-21% you can steal the genji helmet and at 20%-1% you can steal the genji armor ----------------------------------- Simply by looking at his stats you can tell this is not gonna be an easy fight. You may wish to come back later especially if you can't handle one or two of the enemies on the way to gilgamesh. If you run into Disma run. Everything is pretty similiar aside from the bulked up stats with a few exceptions such as gilgamesh is immune to slow this time. The big difference is that Gilgamesh uses level based skills that will inflict status effects. At 35 I'm immune to all 3 of them(I've been using Fireflys to maintain my level for awhile though it wasn't specifically for this fight but it works out As you might have deduced, the first key to beating gilgamesh without too much leveling is being at a level where his lv 2 sleep and lv 3 disable won't affect you or atleast equip against it. Basically if your level is divisible by 2(ie any even level) then Lv2 Sleep will work on you. If your level is divisible by 3 then L3 Disable will work on you. Alternately you can equip an accessory that makes you immune to whatever on at least one person and have them esunaga the others. Now the setup(applies to low levels or those playing without quickenings nor espers and don't have double/triple mp, at high levels just equip heavy body armor and big ass weapons and use curaja when needed). Have a tank though it doesn't matter about evade, they are just gonna be the decoy with the best armor and preferably a hat that increases HP. Keep protect, decoy, and bubble(or bubble belt) up at all times. Have a healer with faith active at all times to do a lot of healing (better yet have 2 mage types for it). 3rd doesn't really matter though I would suggest a caster to start and then whatever you want. Be prepared to cure stop as he inflicts it with his attacks sometimes. Most people complain about the start where both gilgamesh and enkidu face. However if you check out what you can do to enkidu's status you can quickly see that you can make him a non-issue. The key is to put him to sleep and oil and then spam firaga at him. Before going in I suggest buffing everyone with faith. Just be ready to reapply sleep and keep your tank up(hopefully gilgamesh will spam the lv based skills) and Enkidu will go down in a minute. If you are gonna melee Enkidu try equipping some cameo belts(unless you need to protect against status effects) to get around Enkidus evade. Did you get that? Put the damn dog to sleep! That's the second key to beating Gilgamesh at a low level. Alternately you can blind the dog and equip a tank for blocking(ie main gauche + best shield + gauntlets) and Enkidu won't be able to hit much. Your tank should be set up for blocking anyway till Enkidu is down. After it dies though go for the best weapon you have With just gilgamesh it's down to a tank and spank but of course he's got some high attack power which increases a bit near the end. My tank has about 5250 HP with bubble and he hits for about 1500 with dragon mail. It goes without saying to keep him topped off incase of comboes. Aside from the buffs I already mentioned I kept haste buffed on everyone which can help get heals off in time. I also fully buffed my other tank to swap in if things went sour then I would raise my fallen tank, buff him up and then swap him out so I could repeat as needed. Keep healing gambits at a safe level(ie set them to heal at a higher point, I used (60% though 70% may be better) doesn't hurt to have your tank use X-Potions at low health as well. You may wish to try to use expose to speed it up but it missed a lot for me and I don't know if it resets between HP totals. At 60% he'll start using Bitter End and at either 60% or 40% he'll inflict sap instead of stop with his attacks. Don't forget to dispel him each phase. Especially at his last phase as soon as you can act have someone dispel just before he gets off perfect defense. At 20% things get a bit nuts. It's almost the same thing as carrot only it takes two or 3 strikes to kill a person with bubble. With the genji armor + protect you may be able to keep healing up. Especially at higher levels but if not the best thing to do is don't worry about buffing or healing. Just set everyone to use raise and attack and put in your hardest hitters. If he ever takes out two people back to back by attacking and going right into monarch sword then switch one of the dead out. Once you have the other dead guy raised and he preferably uses a level based move switch back in your other dead to get them raised up. There isn't really anyway to finish it cleanly at lower levels. If you didn't read it under Gilgamesh's skills, Paling/magick barrier wears off after he does Monarch Sword twice. Congrats! An alternate strategy is to do everything in your power to keep Decoy + Reverse active on a person at all times. You pretty much won't be able to lose if you can do that. Most people consider it to be a cheap strategy though. =============================================================================== Utilizing the Masamune: -6No2- So you accepted the challenge and downed Gilgamesh and got you're genji equipment and Masamune. Masamune + Genji Gloves offers the highest combo rate you can get(aside from wyrmhero blade). Normally this by itself with Haste + Bravery + Berserk is enough to get a lot out of it but you can take it to the logical extreme by using Infuse to set the wielder's HP low. According to Maltzan's Game Mechanics guide the number of hits a combo will do is based on current HP. At extremely low health the # of hits begins to sky rocket. (6.25% offers the best + you get the benefit of the adrenaline augment. Of course being on the verge of death means they basically can't get hit and you can't have healing gambits(aside from self). Using a decoy basically does it aside from AoEs. Best way to work around that is to keep the Masamune user out of the active party until you work the mark down some and then switch them in to finish them off quickly. DO NOT TRY THIS ON ANY FOE THAT HAS THE DAMAGE REFLECTION PASSIVE ABILITY Somewhat tricky to pull off but devastating when done. =============================================================================== ================================ Deathgaze =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 184000 | 999 | 46 | 25 | 99 | 18 | 83 | 29 | 29 | 0 | 28 | 7560 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Normal | Normal | Normal | Weak | Normal | Absorb | Normal | Normal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 5,400 gil, Elixir x2 Steal: Phoenix Down, Charger Barding, Emperor Scale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. He just uses a few tricks to make this longer than it should be. The only thing to watch out for is Crushing Fangs which has a chance to instantly KO. The usual Decoy + Bubble + Protect/Shell works well here though he ignores evade so don't worry about a shield. He immediately opens up with Paling so you'll have to use magick against it such as Bio or simply heal through it till it falls. As soon as it falls go nuts on it. Try equipping someone with the masumune + genji gloves + Haste + Bravery + Berserk. He'll most likely use Restore once. At low health he'll put up a magick shield and start using Fireball and scourge a lot. He might use Reverse on himself so either using healing abilities on him, don't attack. It only lasts about 10 seconds. Another easy way to do this is to stay at range and keep reflect on everyone. Boost you're mag power and bounce AoE spells back at him. Like so many other foes if you stay at range then he'll stay at range and cast spells and you can reflect his spells back at him. When he puts up a magick barrier just switch to ranged physical attacks or go melee to finish it. However if you're strong enough you can actually kill him this way before he can get off restore If you are at the end of the game and have Renew you can kill it near instantly by using Reverse + Renew + Healing item/spell. Note about Renew: He uses Renew to heal himself when he's low on health and he can't immediately target anyone such as if you run away or get wiped out. Remember that a person newly rezzed in untargetable for a period of time. You can then use the key to open the gate in the W part of Site 9." --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 25 - Recommended 50+ This guy is actually pretty tough. Scourge hits for over 3k but can be reflected(he rarely uses it though) and it gets much stronger near death when it also raises a paling. Curse is the real danger combined with the raised attack power and how he becomes unblockable(At the start you can block most of his attacks). Slow is about all you can do but it's fairly helpful. At a low level like I am you basically can't survive him at critical. He just annihilates people since he attacks so fast and will combo like mad if they aren't killed outright. If you are a much higher level than I am you should be able to survive his onslaught much better or more likely you will just destroy him due to his low health which is his achilles heel... I always use Bubble so I never noticed it but he can inflict disease. Bubble will make you immune to Disease. Haste + Berserk + Bravery is the short version. The strategy I used to kill him is utter brute force. Bravery and haste on everyone and berserk Reddas and a fighter to start. Your tank should still have the old decoy + bubble + protect/shell(or actually protectga/shellga since you have that now, honestly I keep forgeting that). Don't buff him with berserk right away so you can move him away from people when Diabolos uses Curse and scourge or you can have him berserked since the main problem is confuse and berserk prevents that. I had to do the move away bit because of my level and they just get killed outright sometimes. At half way make sure he's not in haste, this is important so he wastes time casting it at critical which he seems to always do before using Force barrier. If multiple people will get hit by curse use Esunaga. With 2 fighters + Reddas under Berserk, Bravery and haste they should kill it before it can cast Force Barrier. Especially since you have access to some decent weapons at this point such as Masamune + Genji Gloves and Save the Queen. I actually buffed my Masamune wielder and swapped him out for my utility mage before engaging to help with the buffing and to keep one more person away from AoEs till he got to about 50% when I swapped them again and hit Reddas and my tank with Bracchus's wines. If his parrying is a problem try equipping cameo belts(buyable in Balfonhiem) I may have made it more difficult on myself but I generally play it safe. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Piscodaemon ============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 49660 | 999 | 33 | 27 | 61 | 22 | 64 | 21 | 33 | 5 | 26 | 4730 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 3,800 gil, Dark Shot, Scathe Mote Steal: Potion, Reflectga Mote, White Robe ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Just decoy one person and have them face the malboro away from everyone else. This way only one person will get hit and then it's just a simple esuna. Don't worry too much about buffing and spell casting in general since his breath attacks have priority and will delay everything being cast. The attack command still goes through so it's much quicker. He can hit somewhat hard so if you are a low level bubble is a good idea and will also prevent disease from putrid breath. Otherwise it's really no different than fighter most any malboro creature. At the start quickly dispatch the lesser malboros and hit the big guy with a dispel. 2 casts of Aeroga can do this well before they can react. Wild Malboro has a few tricks that you can easily avoid with enough offense. He has no great defense at critical so you're goal is to kill it before soul etude can kick in. Use Haste, Bravery and so on with you're strongest weapons to see it done. Alternately you can try reflecting Aeroga off your team with reflect and of course boosting mag as much as possible with mystic armor, cherry staff, and faith(all of that together may be overkill at high levels).(Remember you can cast through reflect with opal rings for healing and stuff...). If you don't do it then you'll have to deal with his paling next time around. He'll stop using breath attacks but he'll also attack with 0 CT. Use protect help mitigate the damage as well as heavy body armor. timmagicker recommends casting Aeroga to finish it from here and that seems a fine idea. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Catoblepas =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 187991 | 999 | 42 | 21 | 79 | 18 | 78 | 25 | 28 | 0 | 27 | 6000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Yes | Yes | Yes | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 3,200 gil, Volcano, Arctic Wind Steal: Hi-Potion, Beastlord Hide, Gemini Gem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. You can force a snowstorm by talking to the client, Relj. Upon exiting Bur-Omisace to Freezing Gorge head west to Head of the Silverflow and then south to Icebound Flow. In Icebound Flow take the SE exit to Karydine Glacier and then take the nearby SW exit to Silverflow's End(dead end part). Try taking a chocobo. On a sidenote if you need Leshach Entite for anything this is a good opportunity --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 25 - Recommended 60+ This is an endurance fight depending. He does quite a bit of damage as well as inflict status effects. He also ignores evade. Be sure to dispel him as your first move whatever you do. For damage numbers with the maximillian he does about 1200-1500 with his attacks and a bit more than that with rake. With an Ice Shield, maximillian and protect White Breath does about 1500. Without an Ice Shield it will do around 3k. Shock does roughly 6000 damage if not reflected. The cheap way: There are some parts of the area that Fafnir simply can't go. For example if you stand in the SE down by the rock he'll only be able to hit you with his spells. Then all you have to do is use ranged attacks and reflect to beat him without taking any damage(such as reflecting thundaga, storm staves = +50% lightning damage). Mirror mails + Opal Rings are a great combo to allow you to keep buffs up and speed things up. The normal way(low level): Remember to dispel, it's masochistic to leave bravery on Fafnir >_> Depending on equipment and level bring lots of status removing items and of course healing and phoenix downs. You may not need any if you don't mind constantly changing equipment to become immune or reflect what he casts. I recommend a power armlet on the tank though that means no bubble belt. If Bubble is vital(such as if you are taking it on at a low level) then you may wish to manually recast it before it expires(same for decoy). For the tank the best armor that you can buy is the Maximillian in Nabudis and I'd go with the best light armor helmet you can buy which is the Gigas Hat from Balfonhiem. You can also buy the Renewing Morian from the merchant in the South Sprawl of Lowtown in Rabanastre. I chose the Gigas Hat since it gives a better HP boost and I needed that more. He ignores evade so shields don't matter though Ice shields do reduce the damage of white breath and should be equipped. If shock outright kills you try equiping a ruby ring or mirror mail temporarily. If you don't care to switch equipment just be prepared to scramble a lot of status removing items and phoenix downs and such. Remember that stop removes decoy. If you keep him focused on one person and keep the others away from that person but in range to heal and such you shouldn't have to worry about anyone but that tank getting hit by Sleepga/Silencega/white breath. What I prefer is to just equip a mirror mail on whoever is targeted with shock and not worry about his other spells(unless everyone is gonna get hit by sleepga). Otherwise shell with halve the damage of shock and halve the chance of being afflicted with sleep/silence and also decoy. I like to use a decoy so I just reflected shock, used an item to cure silence and just didn't worry about sleep hitting my decoy. Thundaga still works great though trying to reflect it can be too troublesome. Also becareful of the spell queue. I had one person only cast it to give have some leeway in the spell queue to fit in healing when needed. Having a back up tank fully buffed and ready to step in case things go bad is a help. Remember that you can cast spells such as arise on your reserve party with the L1/R1 buttons when selecting a target. Sometimes he just gets lucky and comboes like mad. On the brightside he is a bit on the slow side so it's possible to kite him for a bit while you try to recover. Keeping it slowed helps out a lot(Indigo Pendent/Niho). Just keep at it, it takes some time. If it gets to a point where he's really killing you and it's getting hard to do much then try turning off all buffs and healing and just leave a resurrection gambit and an attack gambit on. I was able to keep the fight in order even at level 25 so I never had to do that. With Reddas just keep him berserked since he doesn't use potions or anything nice like that like a good guest would. He's both a blessing and curse at low levels. Far more fun and interesting this way than the cheap way. Well I atleast had fun >_> =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ============================= Behemoth King ============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 1668491 | 999 | 55 | 47 | 99 | 21 | 107 | 35 | 39 | 0 | 40 | 20000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 250 gil, Bacchus's Wine x2, 500,000 gil, Rod of faith from Mt Bur-Omisace Steal: Ring Wyrm Scale, Behemoth Steak, Elixir ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. This is a pain because you have to kill respawns as well so it often takes several clears of each area before he will spawn. Snakes are often along the perimeter with a couple in the middle of each area. The rest are around the structures in each area. If you are strong enough that you can nearly one-shot or one-shot everything you should be able to clear them without respawns. Basically kill everything in The Edge of Reason before going to Icefield of Clearsight. After that move onto Icefield of Clearsight and kill everything. Once everything is dead return to The Edge of Reason and hopefully you can find mr. behemoth king --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 25 - Recommended 70+ I'm willing to wager the guide is wrong about his strength and attack power he hits about twice as hard as Fafnir. His spells also do about 3k damage and cannot be reflected. Protecga/Shellga go a long way here. He also rotates between a paling and magick barrier so you'll have to change between physical and magick attacks throughout the fight. As far as I can tell he ignores evade though I've heard some people say they were able to block/evade. I tried for a while with the main gauche + demon shield + gauntlets but was never able to. Low Level Strategy: If no one is in melee range Behemoth King will stay in place and cast spells His spell damage is far easier to mitigate than is physical damage and he also can't cast anywhere near as fast as he can attack. So basically if you stay at range so will he but you do have to mind you're chars positions, if they wander a bit too close BK will choose melee abilities. You can absorb Darkga with Demon Shields(Nabudis) or Black Masks(Balfonhiem after pharos or Bazaar good) and you can absorb Holy with Sage's Rings(Old Archades). Flame/Ice Shields can further halve the damage of Firaga/Blizzaga with shell if needed. Thundaga you can nullify with Rubber Suits (Balfonhiem after pharos). He generally sticks to one person so decoy isn't really necessary. Just have your other two stay a bit away from that person. Shellga is really enough along with bubble. Quick Curas or Curajas can heal the party or simply Curaga if you spread out and Haste can remove slow. Depending on which Shield is up you can buff Bravery/Faith Basically my gambits look like this: Ally:HP<50% -> Curaga Self:MP<10% -> Charge Self -> Shell/Shellga Ally:Any -> Bubble Ally:Any -> Haste (Insert Faith/Bravery if you wish) Foe: (Ranged)Attack/magick I had either Black Masks or Demon Shields equipped on everyone as well as Sage Rings on everyone. I actually turned my Rez gambit off because of Reddas You can try using Shear/Expose to speed things up but I have utterly horrible luck with them. Obviously when a paling is up and you have to use magic, reflect + AoE spells is a basic damage strat you can use. I really hate repeating these basic strats but people always seem to forget Takes some time but it's easy this way Higher Level Strategy: Bubble + Protectga + Hastega + whatever else you want. At higher levels with more workable HP totals you can take his physical attacks much better so you can get in his face and use the more powerful melee weapons to speed things up. Spread out to avoid everyone getting hit by AoE attacks. Have some chronos tears or equip your someone with a power armlet. At the start use Expose/Shear about 5 times each and then go at it. When a paling is up use shock or reflect an AoE like Scourge. May wish to switch between faith and bravery depending on immunity up. ---- Afterwards you get barely a reward but the client's tale mentions that there is something more... Go to Bur-Omisace and go up to Temple's Approach. You'll notice near the middle there is a gaint stone wyrm head. However you can block him. Decoy someone with the Main Gauche(optional) + Best Shield + Gauntlets. Buff them with protect + bubble + Decoy and things should go pretty well. Or simply equip everyone for blocking and use protectga, ect... For the first half he does around 2000-3000 damage with his normal attacks, about half that with screwfall and a bit more than that with crushing fangs. At half health he uses growing threat to double up and he'll be hitting for around 3-5k. Keep your tank topped off and it should go well. With the Ensanguined shield + Shield Augments(+ Gauntlets, Overkill?) there is no need for bubble, protect, healing, ect... Just decoy the person with shield and they will never get hit. The others can still get hit by rage and screwfall so if you wish you can have the others stand back and reflect firaga at it while keeping decoy active. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Ixion ================[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 306559 | 999 | 48 | 42 | 74 | 25 | 94 | 10 | 34 | 7 | 32 | 5000 166559 | 999 | 48 | 42 | 74 | 25 | 94 | 28 | 34 | 7 | 32 | 5000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Stats depend on whether fought in the inner ring or an outer room ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Yes | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune | Yes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 3,000 gil, Sapping Bolts, Ragnarok Steal: Storm Crystal, Grimoire Aidhed, magick Lamp ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. The easiest way to spawn him is to ride the elevator by the gate crystal to Penumbra and back up. You'll know he's spawned when there are no swarming monsters around the ring If you fight him in the center ring(where you get off the elevator) he'll have the lesser HP total. Just run around the ring when you find no monsters and he'll eventually teleport to you. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 25 - Recommended 60+ Ixion hits for between 1000-2000 with maximillian depending on the attack. Usually his normal attacks(hence his comboes) hit for around 1k. His Thundaga can hit pretty hard so if you are a low level you may want to equip Rubber Suits on the fly when you see him ready it or reflect. He does have a lot of status attacks as well so either have someone(s) at range to cure it or equip against them(again reflect works). Fearga will pretty much nullify MP so be prepared to do charging. Sage Rings are pretty good here especially since in addition to Fearga he can cast Dispelga which will cause you to chew through MP to rebuff. Be prepared to use X-Potions/Status curing items. Berserking him is really the way to go at higher levels. Then he can't purify like he can with simply silence and prevents every ability. He starts using purify/white wind around 50% so you can plan around that. Start out by exposing and then give him a fresh berserk around 60-70% and that should carry you through a good ways. At low levels he simply hits too hard to keep up if you berserk him. Speaking of low levels, try using gil toss to finish him off at critical. He's a real son of a pup at critical. If he does pull of white wind he'll start to be highly annoying casting dispelga constantly as well as all his other goodies. Not much you can do but bear with it. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== =============================== Shadowseer =============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 278078 | 999 | 48 | 43 | 73 | 24 | 100 | 31 | 35 | 0 | 6 | 6000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Weak | Absorb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Yes | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 20,000 gil, Megalixir x2 Steal: Foul Flesh, Maggoty Flesh, Forbidden Flesh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Gained at ~<50% Last Stand ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Location --------------------------------- Pharos-Subterra To access Pharos-Subterra just use a crystal to go to Pharos and take the elevator There are 3 floors in the Subterra: Penumbra, Umbra and Abyssal. Each of these floors is a ring with 4 wings. In each wing you can find a pedestal so 4 for each floor. The pedestals are in the corner of the first room you enter in each wing(ie the room that is visible on the map). You must use black orbs on each one till you can't anymore inorder to be able to advance to the next floor. The shadowseer is on the 4th after Abyssal. You also must beat Phoenix who is in a hidden room on the first floor to gain access to the seer(Go to the NE room in Penumbra and you can get to it from there). There is usually a large black orb somewhere on a floor. If you let the orbs from enemies be they will fly to the orb and be worth 3 times more(they fly in the direction of the large orb). That's the best thing to do. After go collect the large black orb for a lot. You have a choice between using 1, 5 or 10 orbs on a pedestal but don't exceed the amount needed to finish it off or else you'll waste all the orbs you used. So for example if one needs 9 more and you choose to use 10 then you'll lose those 10 to no effect. I have the amount for each one on each floor below. You don't have to do it all in one trip. You can gather some orbs and go up and save and come back later. This was a huge pain in the ass to do at a low level till I got used to the enemies and the repetition. I did sidequests inbetween orb farming. Magic Pots - Use an elixir on them to make them happy. Then you can try to steal it back and kill it. Check out Sephirosuy's Subterra Map for layout and location of magic pots Ramblings...Subterra really shows you the potential the gameplay in FFXII has. Lots of enemies, spells being slung around, frantic healing, and so on Unfortunately due to the design choice of going for extremely high quality graphics that the PS2 can barely handle we are stuck with dealing with a spell queue that either leaves you tapping your foot impatiently waiting for some other spell to finish so you can cast something else or swearing up and down. Very much a shame. Hopefully they'll learn more quickly than it took Tales Studio and Tri-Ace since it seems FFXIII is gonna be real time as well albeit not the same system as FFXII. (SO1/2 had high level spells pause the game for flash and in SO3 it's all real time and everything can be cast at the same time though it's not as graphically impressive it's far smoother gameplay. For the Tales side try playing ToE(ToDIIj) or ToS and trying getting more than one high level spell to execute at the same time...finally in TotA you can do that...mmm triple FoF...) (If you are at high levels you can ignore the commentary) Penumbra: NE: 18 NW: 9 SE: 3 SW: 6, Total: 36 Inner Ring - It's pointless to fight the enemies that appear here since you get no black orbs. The enemies run around the ring and will end up swarming you. Abaddon's are susceptible to nearly everything such as death, disable, sleep, blind, oil, ect... Mistmares can be stopped and oiled(and are also weak to fire) and are the worst due to their spell casting. Warp motes can help clear them out or you can try a fun combo of Sleepga/Disable + Oil + Firaga will destroy a swarm of them(or AoE spells in general). They can also be blocked(as well as most other enemies here if not all) so having shields is a good idea. Death also works. Holy elemental weapons will do a lot of damage. If you plan to flee through the inner ring to the elevator, another room or whereever turn off your gambits and equip for evasion. Nothings worse then trying to click something but being constantly interupted by your guys doing other crap. Also there are Disease traps around. Rooms - You'll find Necrofiends, Bunes, Reavers, and dragons. Bunes and Reavers are susceptible to death as well as other effects like immobilize. In the NW room if you take the west exit there are 4 Bunes which can be very ugly. They have high HP so death is the way to go have your highest magick power guys cast death or simply use Nihopalaoa + phoenix down. Deathbringers/Assassin arrows do well as well. Necrofiends usually appear when an enemy is killed and can confuse so be prepared for that. Mistwalkers can appear in the first room of each wing but only after a time so becareful fighting near there. A combination of Mistwalker + Necrofiend(s) + whatever is chemistry for gameover. You can easily find everyone either disabled or stopped. This goes for all floors so I won't be repeating it. Phoenix you can get to by taking the NE door in the center ring. You can blind it and block. Umbra: NE: 15 NW: 9 SE: 15 SW: 18 Total: 57 Inner Ring - Far less chaos than Penumbra. Dead bones and Mistmares wander around. They are slower than the damn frogs so it's easier to run from place to place but if you stay in place you'll get swarmed. Rooms - More dead bones and Necrofiends. You've dealt with Dead Bones in cases like Roblon and such so they shouldn't be a problem. Only thing is the trick that Necrofiends can appear after killing one. Again the worst thing that can happen is letting everyone get confused by curse or disabled by hawk glare. I went through most of the game with Hawk Glare missing 99% of the time but spend enough time down in Subterra and... Curaja and such is very good to use and can take them out quickly though they can use reflectga. Abyssal: NE: 15 NW: 21 SE: 27 SW: 12 Total: 75 Inner Ring - Wandering Dead Bones as well as many that will pop up including Necrofiends. Things can quickly go bad like on Penumbra. The traps are status traps which inflict Disable + Reverse, float float. Rooms - Zombie Warlocks everywhere. Necrofiends popping up and so on... Same sorta thing as Umbra only a lot more status effects and spells being slung. Not too bad unless you get sunk by status ailments. Again Curaja is good though warlocks have lower HP/defense than most other things here so you can quickly tear through them with regular attacks especially holy type weapons. Remember you need to kill Phoenix to access the Unknown floor. As you might have guessed I pretty much just farmed orbs on Penumbra since you can cast death on most things and the rooms don't get out of hand as much at low levels as the other 2. At high levels the lower floors are better since there are more enemies and hence faster to collect orbs. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 25 - Recommended 60+ Battle starts out like a normal one. Dispel him and go at him. He has some elemental attacks that you can absorb with the proper equipment. He seems to ignore evade and can inflict immobilize with his attacks. He only hits for about 700-1k with maximillian. Be prepared for Fearga which is a massive AoE MP drain. If you get confused by curse try unequiping your weapon. Remember that bubble prevents disease. After he loses some health he begins summoning previous bosses one at a time and becomes immune to attacks until all 4 are down. Basically shadowseer tries to annoy you as much as possible while you are fighting the others with crap like Invert, Slowga, Dispelga, Curse and Fearga while hoping the summoned bosses can then kill you. Pandaemonium - Not sure if he can cast spells but if so you can silence it. You can block his attacks. He'll use perfect defense which you have no choice but to wait out... Sylt - Sleep + Oil + Firaga sees a quick end though Reverse + Renew sees it quicker Fenrir - Dispel and then you can either beat it down or try putting it to sleep and use non-elemental magick attacks or techs. You can block his attacks. Slow can also help. So far Invert + spell delay + fenrir attacking has been the only bump. Remember that if something goes wrong you can put Fenrir to sleep. Something weird happened...when my tank got pwned by invert + big ass cat my other two ended up getting pwned after rezzing him. I quickly put Fenrir to sleep and shadowseer just sorta milled around while I rezed and rebuffed...but as soon as I started attacking Fenrir he started attacking again. So with a little test I found that shadowseer doesn't attack while Fenrir is sleeping Phoenix - Seems to be the same as the first time so you can blind it. Once it's below 50% you can block it as well. After all 4 are down he'll drop his guards and casts a lot of spells. High magick resist is good as well as shell. He also spams Fearga a lot not as much of a problem as when he used it when the other crap was out but if you run with all melee weapons you could run into some sticky spots with Fearga + Scathe. My setup was I inflicted oil and had 2 people at range with a bow + fiery arrows and gun + wyrmfire shot and one decoy to keep the AoE crap away from the other 2...yeah pretty much my basic setup for everything. --- I'm a little disturbed that montblanc admits he had no hope that you would survive and yet sent you off anyway >_> =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ================================= Yiazmat ==============[ Back to Top ] =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------- Statistics --------------------------------- HP | MP | STR | MAG | VIT | SPD | ATK | DEF | MRES | EVA | LP | CP 50112254 | 999 | 61 | 67 | 99 | 20 | 107 | 36 | 40 | 0 | 255| 20000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- Elemental Resistance ---------------------------- Fire | Lightning | Ice | Earth | Water | Wind | Holy | Dark Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Half | Absorb | Weak ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Status ----------------------------------- Blind | Sleep | Slow | Silence | Poison Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Confuse | Oil | Disable | Stop | Sap Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Berserk | Disease | Immobilize | Reverse | Renew Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune | Immune ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reward: 30,000 gil, Godslayer's Badge Steal: Holy Stone, Holy Magicite, Holy Crystal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------ Skills ----------------------------------- 1. Hell Wyrm ~9000000 HP Status - Oil only, Expose/Shear work Weak to Holy, Absorbs Dark, Halves the rest Attacks: Physical Attack - Chance to cause instant Death Rake - Low CT Stone Breath - Hits all in front, can inflict petrify. -ga spells Judgment - Holy elemental, can inflict Stop Invert - Switches HP and MP Level 45 - Recommended 55+ First step to hell wyrm is defeating Vyraal which nets you a Dragon Scale. Go back to Cerobi Steppes/The Northsward(same place where you fought Vyraal) and go to the #10 Windmill and should be able to find an exclamation point. Examine it and you'll meet the Wyrm Philosopher and in exchange for the Dragon Scale will give you the Ageworn key. The Ageworn key unlocks the door to Hall of the Wroth God in Sochen Cave Palace where Hell Wyrm is. Enter Sochen Cave Palace from Tchita Uplands and head toward Destiny's March. You want to enter Destiny's March from the east side because you need to open the "Doors of Hours" in a specific order. Open the doors from the east side going SW and then in a clockwise direction all the way around to back to the east where you started and you'll get a message that a door opened. Head to the west side of Destiny's March and you can open the door. Follow the path to the door to Hall of the Wroth God and use the Ageworn key to open it. Hell Wyrm is a good introduction to Yiazmat as the fight has similiar mechanics. First you'll notice that he has more than one health bar with each dot on the bottom bar representing one. Another difference between it and other foes is that you can leave the room and save and come back later and it won't regenerate health. It will regenerate health if you stay in it's room without it able to target you though. White Masks/Sage Rings are good to absorb Judgment and sage rings are of course great for MP conservation. Power Armlet's can prevent Judgment's stop (if you're quick you can change your equipment when you see him ready Judgement). He hits for around 1500 with Maximillian + protect and his spells do similar damage. Spread out a bit to avoid everyone being hit or simply spam Curaja if you have the MP for it. For the first 15-25% it mainly just attacks with the occasional rake. With the instant death chance this can be annoying especially depending on your buff gambits. Be prepared to edit them. When I first started Hell Wyrm was insanely lucky with the Instant Death and bleed through my MP till I fixed up my buff gambits. Judgement is done periodically. Once you get him down some he'll start using Stone Breath, Spells and invert. This is actually easier. At around 10 bars left he starts going through different phases. He starts with spamming rake which can get ugly at low levels(around level 30) since it has instant start up and will demand a fair bit of healing. Sage rings are very helpful as well as rotating the healing(all you need is curaga) so some people can regen through inquisitor augment(ie attacking). Like with the phases to come this one lasts until he uses Judgement. Next phase is stone breath spammage. Just stay spread out, no problem. If you are using Decoy then you can equip a fuzzy miter on you're tank so you don't have to waste any time curing Petrify. If not just do it manually so you aren't wasting so much time curing it everytime it's inflicted. This lasts until he uses Judgement. Next phase he begins rotating between -ga spells and invert. Pretty easy as long as you quickly heal whoever gets hit by invert. If you find gambits are letting you down then do it manually. If there is anything else beyond this phase I don't know since this where he died at for me. --------------------------------- Strategy --------------------------------- Level 50 - Recommended 75+ I've said this for other foes but this really is a marathon though like Hell Wyrm you can leave at any time and come back later and he won't regen. The important things to remember when leaving and coming back is to 1)Always dispel Regen before leaving and 2)Never stand around in the coloseum without Yiazmat being able to target you(ie if you have to retreat to regroup then leave the area, do not stand around in it rebuffing). To give you an example of how much time it takes to bring this guy down a 2 hour kill is considered fast. Expect it to take 5 hours or more depending on level. The stages simply tell you how many times you've gone and come back. So yeah I really recommend doing this at the 85+ for sanities sake. A lot more HP = less healing and less death = less time spent rebuffing and not only does the higher strength increase damage but level itself is a factor in the damage formula so you'll do a lot more damage and cut the time down greatly. Obviously you can do it at low levels it just takes a long, long time. Yiazmat is like an uber Hell Wyrm with a few more tricks and white breath. He multiple bar thing, can inflict death with his normal attacks, can use white breath which can inflict stop, and Stone Breath which can inflict petrify. He also has Cyclone which causes high windbased damage. Protect helps to reduce the damage and you can equip windbreakers when you see him ready it. Bring plenty of chronos tears and remedies. Damage-wise he does a bit more than Hell Wyrm with his attacks and the breath attacks do the same damage as previously seen. Damage difference between Maximillian and Mirage Vest is about 500-700 per hit so it's your call if you feel the 800 HP(1600 with bubble) is better or not. Definitely go with light armor helmets for the HP boost unless you need the magick power from mystic(extremely doubtful at high levels). Yiazmat will use Deathstrike if he has trouble reaching you such as if you stand on the stairs or get close to a wall. He may also go through phases where he spams it. Once he starts getting near halfway it'll become a part of his regular attack pattern and he'll use it randomly. Again like with all chance based magic shell halves the chance of it working. !Reflectga is something he'll start to cast on the party when he gets down to the last few bars. Watch out for it and dispel it immediately. Especially be careful if you use Renew to heal. He normally only does it once per stage. !Traps are another bother to look out for. You may wish to intentionaly trip some that you think you may walk over accidentaly. Better when you know it's coming then at the worst time. Then you can just pick an area, trip it's traps and fight there. I like the area on the west side. For weapons Ninja blades can do very well at high levels being dark based and having good combo rates. At 99 with bravery they can do close to 9999 after using expose some(this is even with just the best store bought ones). Otherwise the best weapons you have that aren't holy will do great. maltzan's Game Mechanics FAQ has some tables that give examples of dps comparisons between the top weapons. Accessories are more difficult. If you don't know what to equip just go with bubble belts since bubble is very important anyway. You can just cast it though which frees it up for other accessories like genji gloves, power armlet/ ribbon, sage rings, ect... but you'll have another buff to cast. So make your own mind whether you save more time from not having to rebuff bubble, not having to cure stop/whatever, increased damage, ect... If you intend to use a Decoy then equip a power armlet to prevent stop. It Starts... Pretty much however you fought Hell Wyrm works here. Make sure you have a gambit to use chronos tears if you aren't protecting against stop. Spread out a bit so everyone isn't getting hit at once with the breath attacks. At low levels Cyclone is the real problem and you really need to pay attention for it and equip windbreakers. If not scramble the rezzes. Worst comes to worse you still have your other 3 as long as you didn't neglect them and remember that you can target those not in the active battle party with L1/R1 to rez them. Like Hell Wyrm people dying is something you're just gonna have to deal with. Between the instant death on his attacks, Deathstrike, and cyclone catching you at low HP there is no way around it. Seriously sometimes he's just so lucky with the instant death on his attacks that you just want to break the game... Instant death + deathstrike with no chance of action inbetween is lame. That's the kind of BS you have to deal with if you want to beat him. When that double KO happens switch one of the dead out and put another in. Have that new person target the dead person in the inactive party to rez them and have the survivor from the first group rez the other. You can do this preemptively when you see it coming(ie as soon as you see the instant death and him ready deathstrike switch out the dead person and have one person target the dead person in the inactive party and the other target who's gonna be deathstriked) Basically start out by using expose and adjusting your gambits and then settle into a rhythm. Like with Hell Wyrm rotating healing duty is good to get MP totals up(or syphon off of someone doesn't use much MP) 50%...25 million down, 25 million to go... Around 50% Yiazmat will gain a passive damage reduction that reduces damage a bit and caps damage at 6999. Was that really needed to make him longer? If you find Yiazmat is going on a deathstrike spam spree and you don't want that try leaving(might as well save and stuff) and then come back. At around half health he begins to alternate phases between normal attacks with some deathstrikes and using breath and rake attacks. When he sticks to normal attacks and deathstrike you can get into real annoying rez chains. Best to turn off unessential buff gambits during those times to try to squeeze in what damage you can and equip bubble belts. The phases switch after each cyclone. For the first 40 million this is what I basically did at level 50. I fought him right in front of the stairs on the west side. I had one fighter on each end(far enough apart to avoid both getting hit) and a healer down the stairs some. Had to keep them in front a bit else if you are on the stairs or against a wall he'll use deathstrike. Fighters had the best weapons I had and the healer had a gun with dark shot. I needed a healer with mystic armor because I'm not high enough that I have the natural magick power to heal enough nor the MP to just spam as needed. Yiazmat couldn't attack my healer(except with deathstrike) but he usually targets the closest anyway. This allowed the healer to have serenity(mag up at full HP) and healing was set(had a sage ring equipped). Bubble, protect and haste on everyone, bravery on the fighters and faith on the healer. Rotating the healer worked for the first half and syphon also worked well to always not have to charge nor use items. Equipped windbreakers when I saw Cyclone coming and manually used Curaja afterward to bring everyone back to shape and get my healer's HP to full for serenity again(used Curaga otherwise since that's all that was needed since he only hit one person at a time and curaga healed to full). Once I noticed him going through phases I just changed the gambits a bit to do less buffing and kept bubble belts on both(had genji gloves on one otherwise). Basically I just had them keep protect up(bubbled through equip) and haste and faith on the healer. Healer could then bring them back from the brink most times and if the frontline fighters died it was a quick rez + protect put them back in. When the phase switched to the easier breath and rake I switched back on haste and bravery for the fighters. 10 Bars left... At around 10 bars left he mercilessly uses growing threat. He starts hitting for about 500 more. Cyclone damage increases by 1500-2000. Also just like how it works for you, as Yiazmats HP lowers the odds of him doing high hit comboes when he comboes increases as well. Much more difficult to go toe-to-toe with him a lower levels except every other phase when he uses breath attacks. He continues to go through the same phases which are normal attacks and deathstrike till cyclone and then Breath, rake and the occasional normal attack till cyclone. When you reenter he will now use growing threat as his first move and will either follow that up with cyclone or cast cyclone soon after. At around 5 bars left he will cast reflectga on the party. Be ready to dispel or equip mirror mails temporarily. He only casts it once per engagement and will now add it to his list of opening moves when you reenter. Also after he casts reflectga he will stop using breath attacks and rake after the next time he uses cyclone. From now on he will spam his normal attacks which will often combo high and of course instantly kill and use the random deathstrike. High level strategy: Things continue to be roughly the same only you'll spend more time healing and due his high comboes people will die a bit more often. You may wish to fight near an exit so if he gets insanely lucky with instant death you can retreat and save. Saving more often may be a good idea. This is especially true once he hits 4 or 5 bars and stops using breath and rake attacks. Keep protect up and equip bubble belts. Hastega is ok but anything else will probably consume too much time and MP. Hit and run strategy: Basically fully buff up, run in, dispel him and smack him around as much as you can. See how long you can hang in there and as soon as things look bad run out(save probably), rebuff, run in, dispel, ect... Arise, Arise, Arise, Arise: Like with some past marks who get insane attack power at critical just ditch healing and buffing and set your gambits to Arise first and attack. The Low level strat: You may have seen this on google video(search ff12 challenge). Basically stay on the stairs where he can only reach you with deathstrike. When you first enter you'll need to lure him closer to the stairs to be able to attack him at range from the stairs. Two people are gonna constantly rez each other while a third attacks with a gun with dark shot. Keep the dark shot gunner behind the other two since he'll target the closest. The two rezzing will be equipped with ranged weapons, windbreakers and bubble belts. They need somewhere over 6000 HP with windbreakers to surive cyclone. If you do then just have one start to rez the 3rd gunner when you see him ready cyclone this way you get the rez off afterwards before he can use deathstrike afterward. Depending on you're level you can also have you're main gunner cast bubble to have the HP to survive cyclone. You don't have to do that, that's more of safety thing. You can just give them Sage Rings/hermes sandles, brave suits(if you have any) and just use raise. Still queue up that rez on cyclone helps and you may need to pop in some reserves to do some extra rezing. This is what I did so I didn't have to worry about MP. Basically as soon as you see him ready cyclone command the person who just got rezed to rez one of the other two. After cyclone kills off the other two switch out the one not currently being rezed for a reserve. Have the reserve target the dead one in the reserve and both will be rezzed before Yiazmat attacks again. Usually though that's because he casts protect when that happens so just dispel and switch back out your reserve for your other main. The 3rd will have the best gun with dark shot, black robe(+50% dark damage) and hermes sandles. This person will always hit for max damage(at least with focus, ie max hp). You can berserk this person for 3x speed if you wish. Remember to keep this person BEHIND the other two since yiazmat will target the closest and that way this person will not be targeted by deathstrike. For MP you can have the dark shot gunner rez and syphon MP of this person with the other. Took somewhere between 1 to 2 hours to finish it off from 10 bars this way. "Rez less often" Low level mod: Daniel Tarnoff recommends this: "I equipped the two rezzing characters with Shell Shields, Windbreakers, and Bubble Belts. This causes Deathstrike to miss over and over (I even had it miss 4 times in a row). Obviously, this has many advantages. Equipping Shell Shields also allows you to equip measures on your rezzers for quick buffs that you can execute while waiting for Yiazmat to charge Deathstrike." I don't really suggest having two with shell shield unless you just don't want to rez as much since it does nothing to speed up the process but if you don't want to rez as much go ahead. I would suggest only one with shell shield so you could possibly buff the other resser(who would have a ranged weapon) with haste/bravery(through measure or spell) or possibly the 3rd with bubble depending on level to survive cyclone. Technically you could constantly go into the menu to switch weapons...but that adds a lot of time. !! After the congrats didy use libra or float to avoid the traps. That'd be embarrassing to finally kill it and then get wiped out by a silly trap >_> Let us pray we never see anything like this ever again or atleast without the retarded damage cap. =============================================================================== =Ranks and Clan Shop List= -700A- ========================== Quick and dirty list. I use it all the time to learn on **** really works and can't help but use that info throughout my guide. ...and you, thanks for reading! Some closing remarks...aka "The spread of status effects, ect.." I've decided this guide is near about as complete as can be with only some minor updates needed so I decided a little reminiscing story ala maltzans. I got FFXII near when it came out. I first ran into some trouble with cluckitrice. Looking around the only advice I could find on the boards was to level and/or get quickenings. Looking at the guides at the time had either nothing besides how to get from point A to point B or their "strategies" consisted of "If you're strong enough you can win". However as I purused the boards I saw a couple tips among the waste that were actually really good and really helpful. Mostly involved around using either blocking or status effects to really make the fights a synch. Still nearly everyone didn't believe that that stuff was useful at all and that things were impossible to beat without major leveling or getting the zokiak spear and so on early. I couldn't help thinking that that was crap advice to give people asking for help so I decided to write a guide to help people beat marks. Originally started off as simply a strategy guide with no other info on marks aside from info on how to beat them. After the first version was rejected for incompleteness(only 40-50% through the marks) I started to notice a LOT of questions on how to find some of the marks and decided I should tell how to find those troublesome ones and it was soon after that I just ended up putting in locations for all and I'm thankful I did. After coming up with what I felt was a pretty good way to take on gilgamesh I decided to resubmit. At this time some of the NA authors had started their own guides but none of them had gotten around to doing much on marks. The JP guides were still devoid of anything but the locations except in some cases such as Kouli's guide. My guide was posted sometime before Thanksgiving. Somewhat odd reception, I noticed some people recommending some of the stuff but also saw a number of people calling BS that you could beat some of the stuff at the levels I listed. This lead to 2 things 1: Addition of recommended levels which are made for those people who can't believe you can do it and 2: Vids to demonstrate. Around the time I submitted my next update, 2 weeks after the first version was posted, I noticed some of the other walkthroughs had just updated. Let me just say at the time I felt my guide was unique for several reasons 1: The indepth use of status effects, at the time my guide was first posted you'd be lucky to find a status spell outside of a spell list 2: Use of shields/blocking 3: Focus on enemy damage and attacks and how to deal with them rather than simply what to throw at them to try to kill them before you die. Checking out the one really used guide that had no mark strategies before this update aside from stealing from gilgamesh I notice it's an update with mark strategies. Intrigued I decide to check it out to compare. To my surprise it was updated with just the marks I had in my first version and it used some quite similiar strategies. Curious I compared "his" mark strats to his other boss strats and it's like a whole different thought process. I find it amazing that he somehow becomes a master of status effects and the niho when it comes to marks...and no where else. Unfortunetly he did use his own handwriting. As December rolled on I noticed a lot of similiar stuff in other developing walkthroughs but they hadn't really had a chance unlike the japanese author who didn't feel any reason to do mark strats until after my guide was posted and also they actually use the stuff they talk about in their mark strats for other stuff throughout the guide. I also realized it was good because this is what I wanted. People to know other ways to win aside from power gaming and that it's more entertaining. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all. Just the same I've tried to improve my strategies over the new year and have done just that. Mostly because of a new guide that has a lot based on my guide is part of the reason why I'm not planning to update much as I've noticed often my new updates find a way into his new updates. As well as into a new walkthrough. As frustrating as it is I'm pretty happy and honored all in all. My email is rodneytilgner @ gmail.com Version 1.8
